Are We Ready for Self Driving Cars?
Self-driving cars are the latest big thing to hit the automotive industry and there are plenty of companies that are trying to bring this technology to market. Up until the last couple of years the idea of self-driving cars was only to be found in science fiction, but today we are actually testing the technology. Are we ready for self-driving cars or will that take the fun out of driving? Yes, we are ready for this technology to become mainstream and here’s why.
Reducing the Number of Accidents

Did you know that preventing leakage and better insulation will cut down your energy bills by 80%?
More than 90% of accidents on our roads are caused by human error, most of them being driver distraction. That can include everything from screaming kids in the backseat to texting while driving, getting distracted is easier than you think. Self-driving cars don’t get distracted, they make fewer errors and they can process information a lot faster than you. These cars take in information from cameras, sensors and other cars on the road allowing them to react much faster to what is happening on the roads, avoiding accidents.
Always Having a Designated Driver
Self-driving cars could totally eliminate drunk driving. No longer would you have to worry about how much you drank, or whether there is a designated driver. You don’t have to worry about finding a very expensive cab back home after a celebration. Which bring us to the next point.
If you use services like taxis, Uber or Lyft on a regular basis then you know it can cost a pretty penny, especially if you live in a city like New York where owning a car isn’t always practical. If a cab company could have a self-driving fleet it would cut their operating costs significantly that in turn leads to better priced fares for the consumer.
You’re busy and so is everyone around you. Your daily commute can take up to 14 hours of you time each and every week. This is time where you are doing nothing. If you had a self-driving car you could have breakfast, read, do some actual work or even have a nap. Anything but going through the frustration of being caught in yet another traffic jam.
These are just some of the reasons that the world is ready for self-driving cars, but no matter how many ticks there are in the plus column there will be some that are afraid of the technology. There were probably the same fears when we moved away from the horse and buggy. Give it a try before you knock the technology.
